Applejack State University is the newest addition to the California State University system. The University was created out of a partition of land in the Apple Acres owned by the University President, Applejack, her grandmother Granny Smith and her brother, Big MacIntosh, who is also the head football coach.
Applejack State owns the largest university-owned apple orchard in the country. The university's agricultural school is one of the most competitive. The school owns the largest cider bottling plant in the state of California.
Known informally as Apple or AJ, the school runs a Pistol offense and their playbook primarily uses more variants of the Pistol than Nevada, the creators of the Pistol formation. The defense is multiple, with an emphasis on coverage.
AJ's main rival are the Rainbows of Rainbow Dash University. Both schools battle for the Appledash Cup, as well as an all-sports trophy called the Zap Apple Trophy, which is a giant traveling crystal apple infused with all the colors of the spectrum.
Apple also has a minor rivalry with Twilight Sparkle University. Both schools fight for the Big Wooden Apple, a 35-pound wooden apple painted orange for Jackie and purple for Twilie. Victories for either team are painted on the winning sides, with the year and the score. Finally, Applejack and Pinkie Pie battle for the Apple Pie Trophy.
