Shining Armor and Princess Cadence have increased their donations to Twilight Sparkle University, but a consortium of 25 anonymous bronies from Cape Town, South Africa have donated 100 million bits ($50 million USD) to the expansion of Twilight Stadium, the home of the football, soccer and track and field teams.
As a result of the expansion, the stadium has been officially renamed to "Armor-Cadence Field at Twilight Stadium". The expanded stadium will now house 20,000 people. In addition, a further 25 bronies from Dubai have donated 150 million bits ($75 million USD) to the construction of Twilie's Grill, a sports pub and restaurant adjacent to the south end zone of the stadium so that fans can congregate and watch other college football games prior to the home games taking place at Twilight Sparkle. The sports pub will have room for 1,000 people, and a full staff of 100 will be tending bar.
"It is official: we are taking athletics seriously," said university president and founder Twilight Sparkle. "We are the largest university in the WAC, and we need to act like we are. So, we are going to up our efforts in giving the fans what they want.
"With the expansion, we are in the same company as Applejack, Fluttershy and Rarity in terms of stadium capacity. In the future, we will consider expanding seating to 50,000, but that is contingent on how we perform. In all honesty, the university is content with having expansion to just 20,000, as there are hills in the background for other fans to watch the game from.
"This marks a new chapter in our quest for glory as a football school. I am excited as you are for the 2012 Western Athletic Conference season."
"I think this is a great way for the University to honor what we have done for them," said Cadence, who is Twilight Sparkle's sister-in-law. "Now the Unicorns will definitely be ready to play."
"I've talked with her Highness Princess Celestia about watching the games via satellite and I can confirm that the local TV station in Canterlot will cover all the home games here, so it's a big win-win situation," Shining Armor added.
The official dedication of the stadium will take place August 2, when Swedish pop sensation Loreen performs a concert on the pitch. Tickets for the official dedication are sold out.
