Tsumugi Kotobuki, a former musician for the Japanese power pop band Hokago Tea Time, was named new Applejack State University Athletic Director, according the the university president, Applejack, at a meeting held at AJ Quad today.
"We are excited to have Ms. Tsumugi Kotobuki as our athletic director," said Applejack. "We think she is gonna get everyone fired up and motivated to enjoy Appleknocker Athletics. She is a driven individual, motivated by adversity and an advocate of diversity in student athletics.
"Her leadership and professionalism are what you expect in an athletic director, and we are confident that Ms. Kotobuki will do a mighty fine job guiding our teams for years to come."
"I am excited to be a part of who I feel is the best team in the Western Athletic Conference," said Kotobuki, dressed up for the occasion. "I love ponies and I love apples. But I didn't come here just for the good stuff. I came here to pursue a life outside of music.
"I have been a musician for awhile, but it came to a point that I realized, life is more than just music. it's about helping others get better at what they do, whether it's the coaches, the players, the fans, the students, the alumni, the parents...it's about making people feel better about themselves, thus instilling more confidence in their own ability.
"As university athletic director, I want the Appleknockers to have the best athletics program not just in the Western Athletic Conference, but in all of NCAA Division I athletics. This is a school with a lot of promise and a bright future, and I plan to be part of it."
Kotobuki's tenure as Athletic Director is effective immediately. She will be formerly introduced at the Sept. 14 football game against the Temple Owls.
