Year 2 of the M.A. Larson project at Twilight Sparkle University got off to a flyer, as the Unicorns pounded the UCLA Bruins, 104-13. Quarterback Andrew Sharp was exquisite in running Twilie's Run-and-Gun set, passing for 522 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for 373 yards and five more scores. Halfback Eric Love provided a nice changeup, rushing for 117 yards and three touchdowns.
Wide receiver Eric Rouse caught 11 passes for 189 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Unis. Freshman wideout Anthony Mitchell caught eight passes for 130 yards and freshman wideout Luke Massey added another eight receptions for 100 yards flat. Mitchell also led the blockers with nine pancakes.
Left end Steve Manson is due for a big year in pacing the pass rush for Twilie. He had 11 tackles and 10 sacks on the night. Middle linebacker Walter "Cookie" Brown had 13 tackles and two sacks, while cornerback J.J. Johnson had 12 tackles, two sacks and an interception.
"We wanted to schedule the best teams out there because we feel we have a team that can play with the best out there," said Coach Larson after the game. "That said, our players put on an awesome performance against a UCLA team that will contend for the Pac-12 title. We will get ready for next week's match with another good team in Notre Dame."
Twilight Sparkle improve to 1-0 and will host the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the second of a long eight-game home stand at Armor-Cadence Field at Twilight Stadium.
