ESPN released their four-year outlook of championship contenders and tabbed Twilight Sparkle with a rank of 111 for 2012. However, that proved to be a temporary ranking, as the Unicorns were pegged to finish first for the next three seasons after that, according to the site, ESPN.com.

The news was met with mixed reaction and cautious optimism on campus.

"It's nice to be on top for the following year, but why not us this year?" asked Abner Dailey, a sophomore biochem major. "We feel that we can win it all this year because we have the talent to do it."

"ESPN were wrong about a lot of things and they are writing us off this early?" wonder June Bugg, a freshman English major from Hickory, N.C. "They will be wrong again. Mark my words."

"I think we should be 1 in 2012, not just 2013, 2014 or 2015," said Fher Ordonez, a Mexican-American Studies major from Tijuana, B.C. "I don't get the people at ESPN these days."

In the same publication, ESPN gave similarly bleak outlooks for the other WAC schools in 2012 but bright ones in 2013. Applejack State was slated to finish dead last this year but was picked to be third the next three years. Rainbow Dash was selected 122nd but was called to finish between fourth and fifth the next three. Pinkie Pie was predicted to finish 118th but was called to finish fourth, then second, then fourth again. Fluttershy was expected to finish 110th, but was slated to finish sixth in 2013 and 2014 and second in 2015.

Finally, in the report, Rarity had the best 2012 standing of all the WAC schools: 74th, but was slated to finish second in 2013, fifth in 2014 and sixth in 2015.
