In the Western Athletic Conference, it is the norm for scores to be ridiculously lopsided when the teams take on nonconference opponents. All six teams took part and the games were never close. Let's take a look at the week that was in the WAC.
Twilight Sparkle 215, Florida State 41
In a battle between two top 10 teams, it was anything but a classic as the #8-ranked Unicorns trampled all over the #4-ranked Seminoles at Armor-Cadence Field at Twilight Stadium. Tony Hickman passed for 271 yards and three touchdowns but also ran for 512 yards and seven more scores. Twilight Sparkle will be the only team in action this coming week, as they wrap up the nonconference slate against Boise State.
Pinkie Pie 104, Auburn 45
The #18-ranked Tigers ran into some Major Trouble on Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Todd Parker rushed for 440 yards and five touchdowns to lead Pinkie Pie. The Major Trouble's next match won't be until Oct. 20, when they host Western Illinois.
Applejack State 149, Virginia 28
Quarterback Sam Houston passed for 463 yards and five scores and also ran for 309 yards and six more touchdowns as the Appleknockers bucked the Cavaliers silly at the Acres. Next week, Applejack State hosts the Houston Cougars.
Rainbow Dash 181, Wyoming 14
It was no contest at Rainbow Park Stadium. Tailback Csaba Walko ran for 595 yards and 13 touchdows as Dashie raced past the overmatched Cowboys on Saturday. Rainbow Dash takes the week off before hosting the Rice Owls on Oct. 13.
Rarity 118, Mississippi State 38
The Rarity Royals made things difficult for the Bulldogs, gaining 1373 yards of total offense. Andrew Maynard passed for 679 yards and seven touchdowns while rushing for 114 yards and a score. Rarity have the week off before traveling to Sanford Stadium to face the Georgia Bulldogs on Oct. 13.
Fluttershy 157, Nevada 28
The Spirit were led by quarterback Carl Porter, who passed for 712 yards and eight touchdowns while rushing for 266 yards and three more scores. Fluttershy amassed 1413 yards of total offense in the blowout victory. The Spirit take the week off before traveling to College Station, Tex. to face Texas A&M on Oct. 13.
